When it’s time to re-side your home, choosing a color may seem like the simplest decision. However, many different factors can influence your color choice. Here are a few things to consider when choosing home siding colors.

You can stay as close to home’s current or original color as you want, of course, especially if you’re worried about making a mistake. To help keep the look of your home fresh, however, consider a shade that is slightly warmer (with red or yellow tones) or cooler (with blue or gray tones) than the color you have. You might also consider going a little darker or lighter.
To get a fresh look with less drastic changes, consider keeping the original siding color, but change the color of the trim, such as window frames and moldings.
Consider the home’s environment.
When deciding on a siding color, ask yourself how much you want your home to stand out in the neighborhood. An eclectic street with a variety of architectural styles and colors will give you more leeway in finding the right color. If the colors and styles around your home are somewhat similar, then it is best to avoid standing out too much.
Climate is another part of the environment to consider. In Maryland, which experiences all four seasons and different types of weather, you should consider how the color will look surrounded by autumn foliage, winter snows, and spring greenery.
Think of your long-term plans for the house.
If you intend to stay in your home for many years, you might feel free to try a more experimental siding color. Just make sure you choose something you (and your neighbors!) can live with for a few years.
On the other hand, if you intend to sell the house relatively soon after you change the siding, you should choose a color that will be more attractive to future buyers. Angie’s List suggests staying away from greens and dark browns that may make the house look dated. Instead, look for beige and white colors that can give it a fresh, clean appearance.
